The Telegram channel of the oppositionist Sergei Tikhanovsky “Country for Life” was added to the list of extremist materials, should from a document published on the website of the Ministry of Information of Belarus.
According to the document, a similar decision was made by the Tsentralny District Court of Minsk on July 12 and “is subject to immediate execution in accordance with Article 314 of the Civil Procedure Code of the Republic of Belarus.”
In addition, the Telegram chat and the chatbot “Countries for Life”, as well as the Telegram channel of the “Country for Life” foundation, were recognized as extremist.
Sergei Tikhanovsky was arrested on May 29 in Grodno. Initially, a criminal case was opened against him and several other people about violence against a law enforcement officer. This happened after he tried to apply for a presidential nomination. He was later charged under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization of group actions that grossly violate public order).
Later, the Investigative Committee of Belarus brought the final charges against Tikhanovsky. All this time – since the spring of last year, he was in custody. He is charged with crimes under four articles of the criminal code.
The charges were brought under Part 1 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code (organization of mass riots), part 3 of Art. 130 (inciting social hatred), part 2 of Art. 191 (obstruction of the work of the CEC), part 1 of Art. 342 (organization of actions that grossly violate public order).
In the message of the Investigative Committee it is said that the damage from the actions of Tikhanovsky and those close to him amounted to more than 3.5 million Belarusian rubles (about $ 1.3 million). The property and funds of the accused were seized.
In May, the criminal case against Tikhanovsky and several other oppositionists was sent to court.
After the arrest of Tikhanovsky, his wife, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, nominated her candidacy for him in the elections.
