The oldest Belarusian newspaper “Nasha Niva” stopped working in the country, informs BelaPAN with reference to the statement of the director of the publication Anastasia Rovdo. Some of the employees decided to leave the country, the rest stopped working in the editorial office.
“The team is under stress now. Some remain in Belarus, they are not working at the moment. Some are abroad. Fortunately, when they came to us, employees abroad were able to pick up the tasks and quickly get down to work, we regrouped a little, ”said the director of the publication.
She noted that “working as a journalist for an independent publication within Belarus is tantamount to suicide”.
On July 8, the Belarusian Information Ministry restricted access to the website of the Nasha Niva newspaper. The employees of the editorial office were searched.
The editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Yegor Martinovich, was beaten and detained.
The editor, the head of the advertising department and the chief accountant of the publication were also detained. Until now, it has not been reported what exactly they are suspected of.
