The largest aviation concern in Europe, Lufthansa, intends to abandon the address “ladies and gentlemen” on board its flights in favor of gender-neutral forms of greeting, transfers Interfax.
As noted in the press service of the company, the solution is aimed at making all passengers feel comfortable, including those who do not identify their gender.
“It is important for us to take into account all passengers in our appeal. Different greetings can be used depending on the time of day, such as “Dear Guests,” “Good morning / Good afternoon / Good evening,” or “Welcome aboard.” The decision will be made by the aircraft commander, ”said a Lufthansa spokeswoman.
The decision was the result of a broader discussion about inclusiveness within the company. According to a Lufthansa spokesman, efforts to achieve a gender-neutral language will be made with regard to both passengers and employees of the company.
Previously, a similar decision was made by Disneyland, abandoning the use of the phrase “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.” Guests are now being addressed by “dreamers of all ages.”
